Have you been to the Grand Rapids Downtown Market?

Are you ready to tour one of the top culinary hubs and marketplaces in West Michigan? Welcome to the Grand Rapids Downtown Market.

About the Downtown Market

The Downtown Market has been proudly serving customers and bringing businesses and events to life since 2013. Since opening, the Downtown Market has had over 7 million visitors, hosted over 2,000 public events, and held 650 weddings. Over 180 businesses have started in the incubator kitchen, and over 700 jobs have been created.

This Grand Rapids staple is located on the south end of Downtown Grand Rapids, right off of Ionia and Wealthy Streets. It is open seven days a week year-round from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., with the exception of some holidays, of course. The Downtown Market has over 18 amazing restaurants and retailers, hosts year-round public events and cooking classes, and has an award-winning event space and greenhouse.

Our Favorite Downtown Market Restaurants

Now let’s dive into some of our favorite restaurants in the Market. First up is Aperitivo, which is a wine and cheese shop that also serves charcuterie boards, does wine tastings, and more in their upscale, modern bar space. You can’t miss the seafood market, Fish Lads, for some of the best fresh fish selections, oysters, and seafood dishes. This is one of Grand Rapids’ best places to go for seafood caught both locally and from around the world. Rak Thai is another favorite vendor serving flavorful Thai dishes like pad Thai and curries. You won’t want to miss their bubble teas either.

Available Classes and Events at the Market

The Market offers a wide range of cooking classes, both for adults and kids. These classes often revolve around seasonal ingredients, different cuisines, and special techniques. Some examples include a sushi rolling class, cooking with farmer’s market finds, and some seasonal and holiday classes as well. Classes are taught by experienced chefs and food professionals with both in-person and virtual options. The downtown market also has a full schedule of free public outdoor events, themed market food promotions, holiday events, pop-up makers’ markets, and more. You could also host a private event or wedding at the market.

The market’s beautiful greenhouse and indoor spaces are often used for weddings, corporate events, and other private gatherings. When the greenhouse isn’t being used for a private event, you can also relax in and enjoy the gorgeous space yourself.

Whether you’re hungry for a bite to eat, going shopping for your next meal, or looking for something fun to do, the Downtown Market will definitely have something for you. If you want to learn more about living in Downtown Grand Rapids or any of the surrounding areas, connect with our team!
