Grand Rapids Parks

It’s summer time and those with kids or just looking for a change of scenery will find themselves taking advantage of the many parks and recreation areas that Grand Rapids has to offer. In the last few years, a lot of focus and money have been dedicated to revamping the Grand Rapids parks in the area. Venture out and check out the different parks in the area! Here is a list of some of the most popular parks in each area of Grand Rapids and what you can look forward to by visiting each park!

Ada

Ada Township Park—Ada Township Park located off Grand River Ave and Buttrick offers playgrounds, soccer fields, softball fields, trails, fishing pond, pavilion with eating area, grills, two gazebos, and many more amenities. This is a very popular park serving the southeast side of Ada. You will find many enjoying the beautiful summer days and nights at this park.

Leonard Park—Leonard Park located on 7490 Thornapple River is not too far from Ada Township Park however it offers a close walk to the downtown Ada area which in the coming days is to see a lot of growth and improvements. Although Leonard does not have nearly as many amenities as Ada Township park it does feature Ada’s covered bridge which is a popular setting those interested in photography, a softball field which turns into an ice rink during the winter, walking distanct to downtown Ada, and a bike path.

Roselle Park—Roselle park located closer to the northeast side on 1010 Grand River Ave serves many neighborhoods closer to that area. This park is a wide open area that features paved and unpaved trails along the Thornapple River with access for those looking to kayak. This is a great park for those looking to bike offering wide paths. This summer a brand new multi purpose resource center will be available for educational programs and events, and also restroom facilities

East Grand Rapids

Waterfront Park & Reeds Lake Trails—Waterfront Park & Reeds Lake Trails located at 2205 Reeds Lake Blvd is one of East Grand Rapids most popular areas for it’s neighborhoods to come and enjoy the summer and winter weather. Often you will find many people biking, running, or leisurely walking around its 4.2 mile trail that wraps around the lake. This park also features many area’s to just sit, relax, and enjoy a good book with the view of the lake.

Manhattan Recreation Area—Manhattan Recreation area located at 3180 Cascade Rd is another popular park for East Grand Rapids residence. This park offers many amenities such as playgrounds, charcoal grills, rentable pavilion, picnic tables, nature trails, volleyball courts, and equipped for many other sports!

Grand Rapids

Blandford Nature Center—Located at 1715 Hillburn Ave families love the variety of nature areas with hiking trails and the chance to scout out wildlife at this 143 acre nature center. Indoors, families enjoy exhibits and the popular wildlife care program.

Fredrick Meijer Gardens—A popular park/garden for many reasons which is located right off the Beltline. Families can enjoy the gardens, summer concerts, many organized activities, sculptures, and even a childrens garden and play area.

John Ball Park—Located a 1300 Fulton St this park has Playground, Swings, Open fields, pond. Located next to John Ball Zoo.
