About Jenison, MI

Jenison is a suburb of Grand Rapids located to the west of the city. It’s ranked as the 100th largest in Michigan and is home to around 17,000 residents. Jenison was actually called Jenisonville until 1887. Located in Ottawa County in Georgetown Township, you’ll find that you’re 12 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids and 28 minutes from Lake Michigan. Located to the south and west of Jenison is Hudsonville. To the east is Grandville. Northwest of Jenison is Grand Valley State University and to the north is Standale.

Educational Opportunities

The schools in Jenison are fantastic with six elementary schools spread out throughout the city. Jenison has a Spanish immersion program as well which is great. The junior high school and the high school are right next to each other, with just under 1,500 students attending the high school. Jenison also has an Innovation Academy, which provides K-12 online and blended learning opportunities. 

Restaurants in Jenison

There are several restaurants you’ll find in Jenison including Peppino’s Pizza Sports Grille, the famous Los Amigos, which is now called Los Rancho’s Mexican Restaurant, the Win Tavern 33, and all your classic fast food options as well. While you may feel like there’s not much variety, keep in mind that Jenison is extremely close to Rivertown Parkway, which is on 44th Street, located in Grandville, which has everything that you’re looking for.

Recreational Activities 

Jenison has a great golf course called Wallinwood Springs. Just south of that are Sunnybrook Country Club and Gleneagle Club, which are located in Hudsonville, but some good options there for you. For parks in the area, you have 8th Avenue Park, Rosewood Park, Pioneer, Woodcrest, Maplewood, and a team favorite, the Grand Ravines Park. The Grand Ravines County Park is located in northwest Jenison and offers hiking, fishing, scenic views of the Grand River, a ravine overlook, a dog washing station, a pedestrian suspension bridge, and so much more.

Within the Jenison school district, you’ll find that 85% of the residential homes are 100% homestead and 15% rentals, which is a great ratio. Since January 1st, 2024, there have been 136 homes that have sold in the area ranging from $190,000 to $1.3 million. The average sale price in Jenison is $362,069.
