Summer is coming! Grand Rapids is a fantastic place to be during the summer with so many events and things to do. Here are 5 of some of the most popular things to do in the summer of 2016 in Grand Rapids.

1. Ah-Nab-Awen park is host to “movies in the park.” Every other Friday during the months of June-August the movies are presented on a 50 ft screen starting at dusk. Pre-movie events begin at 7p. This event attracted more than 31,000 guests last year so be sure to arrive early to obtain a great spot on the lawn. The 2016 list of movies in the park were just released which will be shown on the following dates and times:

June 3: “The Wizard of Oz”

June 17: “Men in Black”

July 8: “A League of Their Own”

July 22: “The Mask of Zorro”

August 5: “Edward Scissorhands”

August 19 double feature: “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and a to-be-determined movie that will be chosen by voters starting June 3

2. Fredrick Meijer Garden Concerts are a very popular event to attend. The concert series runs from June-September. This venue is unique which offers a small more intimate feel. All seats are lawn seats and many shows are sold out, but tickets are still available for some! This summers line-up is sure to be one of the most exciting which includes the following musicians:

3. Grand Rapids can get HOT in the summer time. Just a 30 minute drive away from downtown Grand Rapids are the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan. This is a great place to come cool off during the hot days of summer in Grand Rapids. Grand Haven, Saugatuck, and Holland are within a reasonable driving distance and each town offers visitors beautiful public beaches, downtown shopping, and many fun activities.

4. This year Restaurant Week in Grand Rapids will occur August 10-21, 2016. This is an event any foodie of Grand Rapids cannot miss this summer! Grand Rapids is host to many farm-to-table style restaurants and restaurant week is a great opportunity to have a taste of the city and experience a big variety.

    

5. If you are an avid golfer or just enjoy the sport Grand Rapids is host to the Meijer LPGA Classic which will take place at Blythefield Country Club. On June 14-19, 2016 144 of the top female golfers in the world come to play for the 2 million dollar purse at the Meijer LPGA Classic!
